DL flyer size: dimensions, bleed and pixels for print
A DL flyer is 99 × 210mm, a third of an A4 sheet, and the artwork is set up at 105 × 216mm to carry 3mm of bleed on every edge. At 300dpi that is 1240 × 2551px, with text kept 4mm inside the trim.

In Australia. Australian printers quote flyers in ISO sizes, A4, A5 and DL, where the US uses Letter and its fractions, which are a different shape.

What size is a DL flyer?
A DL flyer is 99 × 210mm, a third of an A4 sheet cut along its length. Set the artwork up at 105 × 216mm, which adds 3mm of bleed on every edge, and keep text and anything important inside 91 × 202mm, which is 4mm in from the trim.
| Size | |
|---|---|
| Trim | 99 × 210mm |
| With bleed | 105 × 216mm |
| Safe area for text | 91 × 202mm |
| With bleed, in pixels at 300dpi | 1240 × 2551px |
Bleed is the colour carried past the cut, so a guillotine that drifts a fraction leaves no white edge. The bleed calculator does the same arithmetic for any trim size.
How is a DL flyer cut from a larger sheet?
The long side of A4, 210 × 297mm, divided into three is the short side of DL, so three DL flyers come from one A4 sheet. The same sheet folded in three is a trifold brochure with DL-sized panels. The panels are not equal: the one that tucks inside is 2.5mm narrower so the brochure closes flat, which leaves panels of 100.25mm, 100.25mm and 96.5mm across the sheet.
What works on a DL flyer?
A DL flyer is tall and narrow and usually read in the hand after it comes out of a letterbox or off a counter. That shape suits one headline across the top, a short list down the middle and the phone number or website at the foot, where the thumb holds it. A price list, a menu or a list of services fits the proportion well, because each line is short and the list runs down the page.
Our DL templates are the editorial flyer and the menu, both of which reflow their lists when you add or remove a line, and the trifold brochure, which folds A4 to DL.
How do you set up the file for the printer?
Send the PDF with bleed. Our print templates download two PDFs of each piece at 300dpi: one trimmed to exactly 99 × 210mm for proofing or printing at the office, and one with 3mm of bleed for a commercial printer, with the trim marked in the file.
Common questions
Is a DL flyer a third of a standard office sheet?
Yes. The long side of A4 divided by three is the short side of DL, so three DL flyers print from one A4 sheet.
How much bleed does a DL flyer need?
Most Australian printers ask for bleed on every edge, and our print PDFs carry it. Check your printer's own figure before you send the file.
Will a DL flyer fit in a DL envelope?
A DL envelope is made to take a DL sheet or an A4 sheet folded in three. Ask the printer for the envelope's exact size if the flyer is on thick card.
Can I print a DL flyer at home?
Print the trimmed PDF on A4 and cut it down. Most home printers cannot print to the edge of the sheet, so a flyer with colour to the edge needs a commercial printer.
